Cell Phone Policy

Thompson Valley High School wishes to provide each student and teacher a distraction-free learning environment every school day. Research shows that when access to personal electronic devices is moderated during the school day, students are more engaged socially and academically. To ensure such a learning environment, TVHS will be implementing the following cell phone/personal electronic device (PED) policy: 

PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES:
Thompson Valley High School wishes to provide each student and teacher a distraction free learning environment every school day. Research shows that when access to personal electronic devices is moderated during the school day, students are more engaged socially and academically. To ensure such a learning environment, TVHS will be implementing the following cell phone/personal electronic device policies. Thank you for your support in helping us provide a distraction free learning environment at TVHS.

Cell phones and/or any personal electronic devices may be brought to school; however, these items must remain off/silent and in a student backpack for the entire class period.  Please remember that per Thompson School District Board Policy having personal electronic devices on campus is a privilege, please use responsibly.

First Offense: The personal electronic device is confiscated, securely held, by the teacher, until the end of the school day, at which point it can be collected by the student. 


Second Offense: The personal electronic device is confiscated, securely held, by the teacher, until the end of the school day, at which point it can be collected by the student.  A referral will be written and a phone call will be made, by the teacher, to the parent/guardian.
 
Third Offense: The personal electronic device is confiscated, securely held, by the teacher, until the end of the school day, at which point it can be collected by the student.  A referral will be written and a phone call will be made, by the teacher, to the parent/guardian.


Additional Offenses: The personal electronic device is confiscated, turned in to the Dean of Students, securely held until the end of the school day, at which point it can be collected by the parent/guardian.  A referral will be written and a phone call will be made, by the Dean, to the parent/guardian. 


Note: Failure to comply with a staff member's request for your phone will result in additional disciplinary action.

As a staff we understand that parents may need to communicate with their adolescents during the school day. Please use the main number for Thompson Valley High School (970-613-7900) and a staff member will relay the message.

  **Any further incidents will follow TSD Code of Conduct for insubordination and will result in consequences ranging from detention to out of school suspension. **Per district policy Thompson School District is not responsible for lost or stolen personal property so bring devices at your own risk.**
