Geometry in Construction
The TVHS Geometry in Construction (GIC) program provides all students with an authentic real-world learning experience by combining Geometry concepts and construction practices while building a 16’-6” x 50’-0” house for Berthoud Habitat for Humanity. The home is constructed on the high school campus and upon completion will be transported to the town of Berthoud and set on a foundation resulting in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home for a family in need.
The GIC program allows students to make connections between what they learn in the classroom and how those same concepts are applied in the real world. It is a program that is student-focused, community-driven, and career-oriented. Teachers and students will work together, along with local tradesmen as mentors and volunteers to complete this home. The students will participate in an interactive, engaging, and authentic learning experience that builds skills that encourage hard work, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-management which are desirable traits for future employers.
